Lorna Johnson exemplifies servant leadership, dedicating over four decades to empowering youth and strengthening communities. From her beginnings as a former Olympic hopeful, Lorna’s journey has been shaped by a passion for coaching, mentorship, and service.

For the past several years, Lorna has worked with Cru: Urban City Ministry, where she’s made it her mission to build strategic partnerships with schools, churches, and community leaders, helping urban high school athletes reach their fullest potential. Her work creates environments where students can excel academically, athletically, and personally. But it’s not just about sports for Lorna - it’s about nurturing young people’s character, helping them become leaders who will go on to impact their communities for years to come.

In 2014, Lorna founded the Orlando Athletic Training Academy (OAT Academy), a residential program designed to serve at-risk high school athletes. The academy provides academic support, elite athletic training, and mentorship rooted in values of leadership and discipline. Under Lorna’s direction, OAT Academy has been instrumental in helping countless youth graduate from high school, pursue higher education, and achieve success in their athletic careers. Her mentorship instills confidence, encourages resilience, and supports these athletes in becoming the best versions of themselves.

Lorna’s heart for service extends to her work as a volunteer triage specialist with the Homeless Services Network of Central Florida. For the past seven years, she’s worked tirelessly to connect individuals experiencing homelessness with vital resources, providing them with the support and care they need to rebuild their lives. Lorna’s unwavering compassion for the vulnerable and her belief in human dignity are evident in every interaction.

Though Lorna’s accomplishments - both athletic and in service - are remarkable, her humility is what truly sets her apart. Lorna’s legacy of servant leadership continues to inspire all of us, and we are proud to honor her with the Humble Hero Award. Her selflessness and unwavering dedication to making the world a better place have left an indelible mark on the lives of many, and her work will continue to create ripples of impact for generations to come.
